Kitchen Upgrades

Simple swaps to reduce everyday exposure to plastics, synthetic fragrances, and unwanted chemicals in the kitchen. A roundup of essentials worth upgrading, one small change at a time.

  1. Caraway 10-Cup Coffee Maker

Most coffee makers run hot water through plastic parts. Caraway’s Clean Brew System is made entirely of stainless steel and glass, so your water and coffee never touch plastic while brewing. It also has a reusable stainless steel filter, simple one-dial operation, and a 90-minute warming plate.

  2. Stainless Steel Electric Tea Kettle

Made from food-grade stainless steel and free of plastic, this kettle heats water much faster than the stovetop. It’s my go-to for tea, matcha, and pour-overs. I also love how it looks and blends right into my kitchen.

  3. Beast 850 Stainless Steel Blender

This is my daily blender for smoothies, dressings, and protein shakes, and you may remember it from past editions. I use my larger Vitamix for big batches, so the compact 850 is perfect for everyday use.

If you already have a Beast, but not the stainless steel vessel, you can buy it separately. If you don’t have a larger blender like a Vitamix, go with the Beast 1200, which is even more powerful.

  4. Our Place Wonder Oven Pro

An elevated, non-toxic alternative to traditional air fryers and toaster ovens that we use everday in our house. The 8-in-1 countertop oven air fries, bakes, roasts, toasts, broils, reheats, dehydrates, and proofs. It has a stainless steel interior and PFAS-free food-contact surfaces, and its steam infusion keeps food moist inside and crispy outside.

If you're short on counter space, go with the smaller Original Wonder Oven.

  5. Our Place Ceramic Nonstick Always Pan ‍

This pan is worth upgrading to. It’s ceramic-coated nonstick that’s free of PFAS and other forever chemicals, so you get easy cooking and cleanup without the concerns of traditional nonstick.

I have both the 10.5" and 12.5" pans and use them all the time. Unlike my other ceramic pans, they've held up without any scratches and still look brand new.

  6. Caraway Medium Cutting Board

Plastic cutting boards can shed microplastics into your food with every cut. Caraway’s board is made without plastics or forever chemicals, and it’s a good everyday size for prepping fruits, veggies, and proteins.

  7. Bee's Wrap

These are a reusable swap for plastic wrap. Use them to cover bowls, wrap half an avocado or a block of cheese, or pack snacks. Just rinse in cool water and reuse. One set lasts for months.

  8. Koala Eco Dish Soap

An easy upgrade for your kitchen sink. Dish soap is worth paying attention to, since it touches everything your family eats and drinks from. Many formulas use synthetic fragrance and other chemicals you don’t want left behind on your dishes.

Koala Eco’s plant-derived formula is scented with essential oils and effectively cuts through grease and food residue while leaving a fresh, clean scent.

  9. Koala Eco Traditional Dish Brush

This is a better alternative to the kitchen sponge. Sponges trap food and moisture, which makes them a breeding ground for bacteria, and most are made from synthetic plastics that shed microplastics as they break down.

A brush rinses clean, dries faster, and is less likely to harbor bacteria between uses. This one is made from bamboo with plant-based bristles, and it pairs perfectly with the dish soap above.

  10. Nopalera Cactus Handwash

Use code JESSBEWELL15 for 15% off.

An elevated hand soap for your sink. The hand wash is formulated with cactus flower extract and glycerin to cleanse without stripping moisture and The Buena Vibra scent smells amazing.

  11. Biom Cleaning Essentials Starter Kit

Biom makes plant-based wipes without plastic fibers, harsh chemicals, or unnecessary additives. The line includes all-purpose, disinfecting, and hand-sanitizing wipes for everyday messes. I also love their sleek, refillable dispensers.
